I, along with my two partners, founded SheTraveled back in 2015. It’s not always easy to find cute, modest clothes of great quality and fashion. For that reason, we decided to design and produce our own pieces that would follow the strict standard of clothing for LDS Sister Missionaries. I convinced my partners that we needed to produce styles of authenticity so that the brand would be recognized for their unique and beautiful designs. We were able to offer the cutest outfits for Sister Missionaries.
One great design was the creation of “The Perfect Missionary bag”. I produced it in Colombia. It became the first recognized missionary bag on the market. My ability to produce apparel product collections fast and of great quality at a great price did not come overnight. It’s taken many years of hard work and experience for me to make such a minor difference in the design industry.
A lot of the success for SheTraveled came from the price it took to produce our product in China. I have dealt with many factories in my career time, in many different countries such as India, China, Honduras, Chile, Santo Domingo, Colombia and the US. I have found that it’s important to understand the strategy and vision needed when you start a new clothing brand. It’s important to know your niche, who your customer might be, and then the concepts, the materials, the colors. All of this will take form to create a cohesive collection.
Say you are wanting to develop your own line – whether that be a single garment or a full collection, you must first plan out the developmental process before jumping ahead too fast. Take a look at your investments, and see how this garment will fit into the bigger picture later on. If you’re just starting out, and are simply wanting to build capital so you can develop bigger and better items later, will your first garment fit into this later collection? Considering it’s just a starting point, would it be smart to use specialty fabrics with this one shirt or simply create a graphic design that will go on a blank body?
My advice is to be smart, and think ahead first. Create something efficient yet affordable that will build you enough capital to not only get your foot in the door later on but also provide you with enough profit to create your full, dream collection when you’re ready.
I love to design and develop products that have some sort of it’s own unique functionality or a very particular concept. If you’ve ever thought about developing your own collection and/or product, I would be more than happy to help. I will walk you through the entire product development process, and my services will include apparel technical design, patternmaking, sample making, gradings, tech packs and all that you need to start your own line. I have extensive fabric knowledge to help you make the best choices for your pieces and I will help you determine if your project fits USA production standards or overseas production. Go ahead and email me with your project or comment on this post.
